Dear Sirs and Madams,                                                                        December 24th, 2009
Greetings from Taiwan Access for All Association!
This message is regarding to the discriminative arrangement against disabled people by the Taipei New Year’s Eve Party, which your corporation, Sony Ericsson, sponsors. (Please refer to the previous e-mail/attachment for more details) I am writing to update you about the current situation and suggest some affirmative actions, which you might consider taking in near future. In order to assure your future sponsorship just and worthwhile in any kind of venues in Taiwan, please take a moment and read through this letter.

Taipei New Year’s Eve Party event organizers suddenly withdraw their promise to provide accessibility to people with physical disabilities twelve days before the event. The event organizers further stated that, “intense noise level and exposure in cold weather will endanger people with disabilities.” Such ignorant statement and Ableist decision offended many of us as disabled individual and allies. Since then, we, Taiwan Access for All Association, along with a few other social welfare organizations have voiced our anger and opinion to the public to protect disabled people’s rights. On December 22nd, the Liberty Times Newspaper printed an article on the organizers’ discriminative decision, the event organizers finally agree to open up a seating area for a limited number of wheelchair users at the Taipei New Year’s Eve Party.

I understand that for a big International corporation like Sony Ericsson, your participation in this event in Taipei is only a tiny portion of what you do. As enabling human rights is also Sony Ericsson’s corporate philosophy and responsibility; I feel obligated to inform you about what has happened with this particular event, marked with your name on it here in Taiwan. Disability human rights have just began to enter people’s consciousness in Taiwan, we hope to include you in making positive social changes with each single events you agree to sponsor. In the future, please only agree to sponsor events that would provide accessible facilities to the public. Please make sure your co-sponsors and local personnel understand the meaning of social inclusion. You can communicate and educate the public about equal access and respect when you support and recognize disability as human rights.

Taiwan Access for All Association is a grass-root disability organization, serving the local communities nation-wide here in Taiwan. If we can be of any assistance in providing information on implementing accessibilities and disability consciousness in the events you host or sponsor her in Taiwan, please do not hesitate to contact us; we’d be more than happy to join you in creating a better world.
Thank you!

Sincerely yours,
